POLICE have arrested a man accused of killing his wife’s lover after he caught them having sex.

Eastern Highlands provincial police commander Superintendent John Kale said he was awaiting a detailed report from the team investigating the case.

He has appealed to the relatives of both men to maintain peace and allow police to handle the matter.

It is alleged that security guard Robert Gubi, 23, caught his wife having sex with the deceased, Michael Goroa, at the latter’s home and struck him several times with a knife.

Gubi and Goroa worked together as security guards with Kuima Security Services.

The incident happened at around midnight on Jan 12 at Goroa’s Nomba village in Upper Asaro, Daulo district, Eastern Highlands.

According to Pkulia Kunjapisi, who works with Gubi and Goroa, the villagers were aware that the wife and Goroa had been having an affair because she had been visiting Nomba village several times.

The villagers gave her money not to return to the village.

But Goroa returned with her to the village on Jan 12 and they were having sex when Gubi caught them.

Gubi had been married for three years.

After the incident, Gubi walked from Nomba village to Goroka town and reported the matter to his Southern Highlands relatives in Goroka who then handed him to police.

According to Kunjapisi, Goroa’s relatives said, during mediation talks on Jan 20 and supervised by Goroka and Asaro police, they wanted K10,000 and 10 pigs as compensation.
