Enga provincial police commander Superintendent George Kakas is calling on the Government to ban Facebook and social media.
Kakas is blaming social media for inciting riots, illegal gatherings and spreading misleading information which leads to disorder in towns and cities.
He is also calling on the Government to restrict people from having access to pornographic sites.
Kakas said this week that the country had experienced and witnessed negative effects of social media in recent weeks.
He said social media was a powerful medium of sharing information, but if used improperly could create all sorts of problems.
He said internet sites such as Facebook, PNG Blogs, Whatsapp and Voice of PNG that were popping up have been used in the country irresponsibly.
