POLICE officers can be sent for further training to enhance their skills, according to Bomana Police Training College commandant Superintendent Peter Philips.
He was speaking during the presentation of certificates to the 14 police officers who completed training at the International Training Institute.
He said there had been much debate on police brutality.
“Issues about police brutality and ill-discipline would be changed if our mindsets are open,” he said.
“Learning is life-long process that does not stop.
“Many people say sky is the limit. But astronauts went pass the sky.”
He said police officers three decades ago were not as educated as ones today who were sent to universities.
“Our police force is no longer in the past,” Philips said.
“We are the modern police force.”
In-country training supervisor Sylvester Baniba said the partnership with the institute which began in 2016 had seen an increase in the number of officers.
“Capability and capacity building of human resources is very important to (fill) the skills gaps they have,” Baniba said.
The course includes basic computing and report writing, Microsoft word and excel and power point. International Training Institute Business development manager James Tai praised the police department for sending officers to undertake the course.
