POLICE in Jiwaka received a new set of uniforms from Anglimp-South Waghi MP Joe Kuli yesterday.
The donation also included field gear and boots.
The equipment was presented to police personnel from Minj and Kudjip in Anglimp-South Waghi yesterday.
Kuli had bought vehicles for Minj and Kudjip police stations.
He said the total support given for policing in the district was valued at about K1 million.
Kuli, who is vice-minister for Works and Implementation, presented the uniforms at the Jiwaka headquarters in Kurumul.
He said his office was committed to purchasing firearms and would look at further logistical support as well as accommodation for police next year.
Kuli said his office would also support local police during the festive operations this week.
He said law and order was a key area that needed to be managed well for the country to develop and for services to reach the people.
Kuli said if police were underfunded and under supported, this would result in little development taking place and more suffering and misery.
He said he was committed to improving policing in the district and province in order to create and maintain a peaceful and friendly environment for businesses and services to prosper.
“Investors will come to invest when law and order is under control and this is where police will play a major role,” he said.
Acting provincial police commander Insp Michael Kapal thanked Kuli for the support.
He said police needed support to go out and maintain order and peace. Insp Kapal said the support from Kuli would make a difference to the force.
