TWO armed thugs who robbed a man of money and items were shot and wounded by police during a confrontation in Maprik town last Tuesday.
East Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli told The National that the thugs held up a man from Angoram’s Timboli village and took K2,757 in cash and items, including a fishing net, mobile phone, mobile charger, kitchen knife and spray.
The matter was reported to police officers on duty in Maprik, who confronted the suspects and shot them on the legs when they tried to retaliate.
They are being treated in hospital and will be charged when released.
Two others on the run are known to police. Supt Beli warned schoolchildren involved in criminal activities to stop because they will end up in court.
“The police will (deal with) you if you are caught stealing, drinking in public places, or, involved in other criminal activities,” he said.
“You will regret it when you see your friends going back to school while you end up in jail.
“I want you to behave during the holidays and do something worthwhile to keep you busy.”
Supt Beli thanked those who assisted the police in identifying the suspects in the robbery.
He said Maprik used to be a good place to live in but a hive of business activities had changed things.
