POLICE shot and arrested two men armed with homemade firearms during a car chase in Morata, Port Moresby, last Friday.
A statement from the National Capital District/Central divisional command said a woman and her child in a van were held up by a group of armed thugs at Erima and their van taken away from them.
“The suspects then escaped in the vehicle towards the Wild Life back road but a (police unit) gave chase.
“The suspects drove into Morata and abandoned the vehicle near a electricity plant.
“But as they were fleeing on foot, two were shot and captured.”
Divisional Commander Assistant Police Commissioner Anthony Wagambie Junior praised the police units involved for the effort, which resulted in the recovery of the stolen car and the arrest of two suspects.
ACP Wagambie warned youths in the city and Central not to get involved in criminal activities.
He said the police would continue to protect citizens who deserved to live in a peaceful and safe environment.
