Police still investigating brutal murder in Vanimo

National, Normal

POLICE are working around the clock to try and solve the murder of a Vanimo Forest employee near West Tower two weeks ago.
The killing shocked residents, Government officials and the police because the victim, who was found dead with multiple stab wounds, had his skull cracked open.
Provincial police commander Chief Insp Sakawar Kasieng said investigators were confident of making an arrest soon.
The victim is from Kikori in the Gulf province and was a crew member of a logging company’s fleet of tugboats.
The remains were flown to Kikori, via Port Moresby, for burial last week.
Insp Kasieng appealed to Vanimo residents to take extra precautions when moving around after office hours, especially at night.
“Because the killing was in the heart of a very quiet and peaceful town, the people need to change their attitude to avoid becoming victims of violence,” he said.
“People must now be more wary of personal safety, especially those who  are intoxicated.
“If you must drink, drink at home. That is safer,” he said.
