Police to monitor roads closely

THE movement of people on the road during the festive season should be respected and not disrupted, Hela police commander Chief Superintendent Martin Lakari says.
He issued a stern warning to anyone planning to set up illegal roadblocks to claim money from motorists and the public.
Lakari said that security forces started carrying out their Christmas and New Year operations and if they came across any thugs they would not be shown sympathy.
He said since many people would be travelling home for Christmas and New Year, security forces in the province would be focusing on the road.
He said that they were monitoring roads day and night.
“All I am asking you is just stay away from the road and stop trying to do anything silly to the travelling public, they have every right to move at any time of the day or night,” Lakari said.
He said the Ambua Gap section of the road, which was known for criminal activities, would also be under close scrutiny.
Thirteen members of a gang were caught red-handed and arrested there recently.
