A POLICE station commander in Menyamya accidentally shot his son last weekend, according to Morobe police commander Supt Jacob Singura.
“The policeman accidently discharged a shot that resulted in the death of his own 15-year-old son,” he said.
“A full report will be released once investigations are completed,” Supt Singura said.
He also said police vehicles on patrol were stoned.
“Our police vehicles were stoned at Timini along the Bulolo Highway,” Supt Singura said.
“My vehicle was stoned at Munum Bridge and the highway patrol had their vehicle stoned at Nadzab.” He said Finschhafen, Huon Gulf, Kabwum, Tewai-Siassi, Bulolo, Nawaeb and Markham are yet to provide updates to his office on the New Year operations.
“Generally, New Year’s Eve was quiet,” Supt Singura said.
“But police are still on operation to make ensure celebrations are under control.
“Much of the stone-throwing, burning of tyres on the road and other alcohol-related incidents came about after people consumed the cheap alcohol products.”
Supt Singura urged people in Morobe to stop consuming cheap alcohol products on the market now as many incidents were related to these products.
