TWO armed men who robbed Papindo in Wewak town of an undisclosed amount of money were captured by security guards, police say.
East Sepik commander Supt Albert Beli said the duo, armed with homemade guns, walked into the store while last minute shoppers were busy on Saturday morning.
“The duo pointed a gun at the counter cashiers, grabbed the cash from the cash registers and fled,” he said.
“The security guards went after the duo and caught them in the middle of town.
“I do not know why the two had to do this in broad daylight when everyone was busy doing their shopping for New Year celebrations.
“They were under the influence of alcohol, which probably gave them the confidence to stage the robbery.”
Supt Beli said the loot was recovered and returned to Papindo.
