Port Moresby rugby league gets tough on players, teams

THE Port Moresby Rugby Football League will be enforcing strict registration for players and clubs from this season, according to an official.
League administration Meke Maino said the deadline for registration and affiliation had already passed with unregistered teams and players facing points deductions or suspensions for round three.
“The board has agreed that all clubs be given a three-week grace period to sort out their registration and affiliation requirements which are overdue,” he told The National.
“There can’t be any excuses from clubs from this weekend and every player who takes the field must be registered to their club.
“Clubs also have the responsibility to make sure that their Under-20 players show proof of their age and register accordingly or they face the risk of having competition points deducted or players suspended.”
Maino said the league was still operating under their Coronavirus (Covid-19) protocols with matches played behind closed doors.
“We’re really fortunate to receive approval to go ahead with our season and we’ve gone back to see what extra measures we will re-introduce to mitigate the risk of spreading Covid-19,” he said.
