THE Port Moresby Soccer Association has re-introduced the finals system for 2021 with all five divisions to hold their playoffs and grand finals at the end of the regular season.
Association general secretary George Bukoya told The National that finals would be part of the competition again for all five divisions in the association.
“We’re happy to be re-introducing the finals system to the competition,” association general secretary George Bukoya told The National on Saturday.
“The previous system saw teams play all their regular matches with the final standings determining the winners.
“We want to bring back the intensity and competitiveness that was once a big part of this association and we hope it re-ignites rivalries among teams.
“Teams have been left to wait for some time now and it’s about time we give them something to play for at the end of season.”
He said an objective of re-introducing the finals was to revamp the country biggest association and its reputation in producing elite players.
“While soccer is paramount to us, we’re really trying to regroup and make things a bit better,” Bukoya said.
“We’re trying to see where we’ve gone wrong and put the association back in order again.
“The spirit of football is back and after a long break, most of the youngsters who play in the association are eager to get back onto the pitch.
“The turnout by teams is really good, the numbers in the divisions are there and it’s just a great feeling to see everyone back in the game.”
