A POST-MORTEM on a five-year-old boy allegedly shot and killed by police in Western has revealed that the bullet had exited the body, chief of police forensic science Chief Supt Philip Rambaliku says.
“The bullet entered through the front chest damaging the heart and exited through the back ribs after the child was allegedly shot by police near Panakawa on Aug 25,” he said.
“But we will bring in the firearms to do testing to investigate this alleged killing by police officers.”
Rambaliku said yesterday that the suspects were part of the Southern police command Task Force.
According to sources, on Aug 25 at around 3pm, a woman was gambling with others at a location near Panakawa .
“A policeman and two community-based policemen arrived at the scene and were trying to disperse the gamblers.
“Somehow, a police firearm was accidentally discharged.
“The three officers attending to the gamblers were deployed from Port Moresby to the area on July 26 to attend to a number of unrelated complaints, including drugs, assault and causing bodily harm.
“The body of the boy was transported to Daru for post-mortem by air charter on the same day as the shooting.”
