Power disruptions impact Goroka

Business

GOROKA Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Chris Anders says power supply to the Eastern Highlands capital has been inconsistent since Friday.
He said most businesses had been relying on their generators.
“A friend of mine at PNG Power tells me currently the water level is very low at Yonki dam,” he said.
“The transmission line is faulty causing the current load shedding.
“They have men currently working on the transmission line.
“Hopefully, the power will be reinstated shortly.
“The big question is how much damage is caused to equipment when the power goes on and off or worse still the voltage fluctuates.”
Anders said running generators was costly to businesses but they had no other choice.
He also said the province had also experience dry weather with low rainfall and this had also compounded the situation.
“The power has been very inconsistent since Friday,” he said.
“Most business houses have generators but I think that it is the private citizens that suffer the most.
“Any food that they have in their fridge and freezer goes bad.”
