Provincial census coordinators to undergo two weeks training

Provincial Census coordinators will undergo a two weeks training to be conducted by the NSO (National Statistical Office), says an official.
Acting head of NSO Bernard Kiele told The National yesterday that provincial coordinators would start on June 2.
“The workshop will run for two weeks and they will be trained on different aspects such as running of operations, budget and many other things,” he said.
“Some of them will have experience because they took part in previous census but some will be new so we have to train them in what to do and how to do it.”
Kiele said the census coordinators would be appointed by the provincial governments to run the census in the provinces.
The NSO staff also went through a week long mapping training to enable them to learn and test some of the mapping instruments to be used during the census.
The training involved learning to use drones to fly and take images from the air for different areas that would be subdivided into areas for the NSO staff to work.
“The training is for mapping all of our urban areas in the country.”
This was one of the new initiatives that NSO was taking to improve the census operations to get data accurately and on time.
Kiele said the use of the drones would make it easy for them to carry out the census as they previously used to depend on the use of helicopters.
“We previously used to get images of areas using helicopters but now we can just use a drone,” he said.
