GRADES 10 and 12 students from schools in Mt Hagen town are the first to receive a tablet each from Western Highlands education board (PEB) on Friday.
The first recipients of the tablets were students from Kwi Wamp High School, Mt Hagen Secondary, Hagen Park Secondary and Ogelbeng High School.
PEB chairman Lawrence Pena said it was the vision and policy of the provincial government to make the province an education hub in the country and they wanted to encourage the use of advanced tools in teaching and learning.
“The provincial government and the PEB want to encourage and inspire students to be aggressive and independent searchers of knowledge and information,” he said.
“A total of 4000 tablets were issued to the mentioned schools and the team will visit other schools in the province starting with high and secondary schools in the Tambul Nebilyer, followed by Dei council and Mul Baiyer Lumusa this week.”
Pena also said that the provincial government spent K2 million in buying the tablets and it was their priority to make sure grades 9 and 11 students also received a tablet each in the next rollout.
Meanwhile, the tablets had important features and educational applications pre-installed.
Applications included advanced scientific calculator, solar system model, English dictionary, e-book reader PhET Simulation (for math’s and science) and an IT scratch programming.
