PUBLIC servants in Port Moresby will be given priority to buy a house at Duran Farm once the low-cost housing project is completed, says National Housing Corporation (NHC) managing director Henry Mokono.
He said the National Executive Council would allocate houses to all government departments to ensure everyone had an opportunity to access affordable house.
“Government departments across the board will be given 100 allotments each so that they will use that for staffing houses,” Mokono told The National.
He said a qualified contractor would be appointed through a proper procurement process to demolish 60 houses in the project site early next year.
Mokono said the Government had released about K3 million for the demolition work while NHC would engage competent and experienced contractors to build houses at Duran Farm.
“This properties are sitting on land that is needed to be developed,” he said.
“We are going to remove buildings from the current site and build 2,515 allotments.”
Mokono said about K20 million spent on the project previously had gone to waste.
