FORMER SP PNG Hunters forward Nixon Putt is making good use of his off-season with personal training to maintain fitness in preparation for the 2022 Intrust Super Cup season.
“Time to be back on the field is just around the corner and I am doing my best in my personal training to at least maintain my fitness and keep fit ready for pre-season training that is one week away so yeah I look forward for that,” Putt said.
Putt, from Hagen Western Highlands, was signed by the North Devils on a two-year contract in 2019 while playing with the Hunters and this year joined the Central Queensland Capras to team up with countryman McKenzie Yei.
Putt describe his journey in the Intrust Super Cup as a way forward for greater opportunities.
He said playing consistent football was important for securing a contract in the Queensland competition.
“You have to play consistently in every game and by doing that you be considered for call-up by other clubs as well so when this opportunity arises you are opening the door for more rugby league experiences.
“It was a good experience playing with the Devils in 2019 to 2020 and again I am fortunate that the Central Queensland Capras showed interest in me so I joined them this year and I’m looking forward for many more years with them,” Putt said
The Stan Joyce Medal winner is looking forward for a better season with the Capras with the aim of helping his side make the finals.
“We are maintaining the same squad from last season and we hope things will get better this time as we step into the first week of pre-season,” the 26-year-old said.
“We also have new faces joining the squad, most of them are young guns so we will work with them and bring the team up.”
Meanwhile, Putt’s countryman and Capras prop Yei is aiming for a better season this year as they both prepared for the pre-season training.
“As brothers, we are ready to play for this season with our aim to finish at the top of the table, it all comes back to us to be committed and dedicated to our training sessions,” Yei said.
