Quiet on soccer plans

Letters

THE Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) has been awfully quiet since the return of the men’s national football team from the Fifa World Cup regional qualifiers in Qatar and the women’s national team’s return from Singapore after the Tri-Nation series.
Regional media has reported on preparations of other Pacific Island Nation’s football teams’ preparation, tours and friendlies ahead of tournaments like the Oceania Football Confederation’s Women’s Nations Cup in July and the 2023 Pacific Games to name a few.
What about our national teams?
What plans does PNGFA have for the both teams?
If other smaller Pacific Islands can have friendlies or camps in Australia or Europe, why can’t PNG do the same?
It’s no secret that PNGFA receives annual funding grants from Fifa, especially for Football development and supporting women’s football.
Isn’t sending the women’s or men’s national team abroad for training camps or trial matches classifies as football development? Isn’t that putting said money to its intended use?
Look what happened with the PNG Kapuls prior to the Qatar qualifiers, they had zero international training camps or friendlies during their preparation but made it to the semifinals.
Imagine how much they’ll accomplish if they have enhanced camps/trials probably in Australia like the Solomon Islands did.
The women’s team have about a month left before the OFC nation’s cup in Fiji and there hasn’t been any word in the local media about their training progress.
