THE Rabaul district 2013 festive games covering rugby touch, softball and darts is being trialled as a possible long-term project.

The event, kicking off last Saturday is a pilot project and which has received a fair degree of positive reviews, was scheduled to end yesterday.  Led by chairman of Rabaul District Sports Committee Tony Namur the sports contested are those popular in the area.

This is the first year this concept is being tested with an expanded programme a possibility based on its success.

Namur said softball is staged at the Rabaul resettlement while dart and touch rugby are being played within the Rabaul township.

He said both dart and softball are contested in divisions of male and female and touch rugby in open mens and womens and junior divisions.

Namur also said that all participating teams within the district had paid a K50 team registration and K5 per player registration fee in all codes.

“Teams not from the district pay K100 team registration and K10 player registration proving to be undeterred with the participation of a dart team from Kavieng currently taking part,” said Namur.

The games is an initiative of the Rabaul Joint District Planning and Budget Priority Committee (JDP&BPC) under the chairmanship of Dr Allan Marat.

It has through a thorough screening process including getting the greenlight from the Rabaul District Events Committee by the Rabaul District JDP and BPC.
