Recruitment of Indian teachers

Letters

Over the past two weeks there have been more talk and debate on the recruitment of Indian teachers.
Even the PNG Teachers’ Association president – who has no idea about what is going on with mathematics and science teaching – also shallowly commented.
I now write to challenge the PNG National Research Institute to carry out a research on this ongoing debate of, “raising the standards”.
There is no researched evidence to identify the root cause of the problem, and whether or not there is a need or it is viable for such overseas recruits.
NRI is an independent research agent that can help in this
regard without out any undue influence.
Such research must not be done by the National Department of Education (NDOE).
Research must be done first to identify the root cause of this downfall.
The current quick-fix solution is shallow and it undermines the capabilities of the qualified local experts.
Experiences have shown that there is nothing magical the Indians can do.
Both they and Nationals have, with pleasing results, taught the same prescribed syllabus using the age-old chalk-and-talk technique.
