GOREPAINA Redz claimed the 2019-2020 Korepa Offseason Rugby League title on season points differential following a scoreless final with Lavako Blackz in Daulo, Eastern Highlands.
Competition organisers awarded the win to the Redz based on their better for and against over the course of the season.
The 0-0 final last Wednesday saw the match progress to Thursday with the stalemate continuing despite extra-time, golden point play and an additional 10 minutes.
The Redz claimed the Korepa RL shield and K700 while the runners-up took a cup and K450.
Competition sponsor Gibson Sikondowe congratulated both sides for a hard-fought final with neither team being able to breach the other’s defence despite playing two games and going into extra time and golden point.
He thanked both sides for maintaining discipline and displaying good sportsmanship in accepting the decision.
“The game was very tough but at the end of the day only one team wins,” Sikondowe said.
“The aim of hosting this tournament is to identify rugby league talents in the Daulo area and provide a pathway for them to excel in the code,” he said.
The competition started in 2001 and has been run annually despite a lack of support.
Sikondowe started his support of the competition in 2018.
The competition started on Jan 1 and ended last Thursday.
