STAFF of the Madang Resort and Melanesian Tourist Services Ltd had their vaccination on May 26 and 27 to make it safe for tourists to visit. “We want to control the spread of the virus, and at the same time gain the confidence of tourists to return here for their holidays,” managing director Sir Peter Barter said.
“We have all suffered greatly throughout this nightmare (pandemic) and if we do not reduce the spread of the Covid-19, we cannot expect to see the return of international tourists. “I would like to congratulate all 51 staff who have received their first jab of AstraZeneca. “They now have 66 per cent protection from the virus and in 10 to 12 weeks, the second jab will increase the protection to 95 per cent for six months. “By then, we should all begin to see a decrease in infections.” Operations officer Thomas Dedmai said: “I am only in my mid-20s. “Many are still skeptical about the age limit to take the vaccine. “But I am happy that I have some form of protection against the virus.” Sir Peter said that there were a few staff who were hesitant to receive the vaccine. “I do not know what else I can do to for my staff, but also to the general population, they have all heard fake news and have taken this false information as a fact.”
