Riders give Bulldog track vote of confidence

THE president of the Lae Pedal Power Bicycle Club (LPPBC) Gebby Bago has urged the tourism industry to look at the Bulldog-Wau track as a tourist attraction.
Bago and six other riders, who made it to Port Moresby by bicycle yesterday, said the old Bulldog trail between Wau and Kerema could potentially attract trackers and provide employment for people living there.
“Bulldog trail or the Bulldog-Wau track connects Wau in Morobe and Kerema in Gulf that is older and longer track than Kokoda,” he said.
“We left Wau the previous Friday, but due to rough tracks and rainy season, our riding and tracking were delayed and took us 10 days to Port Moresby.
“We have been doing our volunteer awareness on polio, crime and violence and environmental conservation and education of children,” Bago said.
He said some places they visited had school-aged children but they could not go to school because there was no government services reaching them and no health or proper road services in parts between Wau and Kerema.
“It was challenging, but we must educate and help people in need.”
“Our main aim was to ride through the remote areas to make awareness.
“They do not hear about the killer polio.
“We have seen and visited several villages and they are in need of vital services but it would helpful if the tourism industry can be revived and established – people living there could earn and see the light.”
Rider and secretary Archie Towo said there was a need to re-establish the track so it could attract tourists.
“We have Kokoda and Gabagaba trails but the Bulldog track also needs to be considered because it has very good landforms and views and potential in promoting tourism,” he said.
