Road project must continue

Letters

I SUPPORT the concerns raised by ‘Welteke Yobadibol’ a concerned landowner from Gumine that appeared in the letters section of The National last October regarding the road project from Chuave to Karamui via Salt Nomane.
The current work on the Gumine – Karamui road must continue without any hindrance because the road reached our village of Talpakul in June last year.
Today we are carrying our local produce such as coffee and peanut bags to the nearest PMV stop bound for town (Kundiawa) daily.
I appeal to the Works department to abort the new route from Chuave since it will cost a lot of money to build and it may not reach Karamui in reasonable time.
Whereas the current Gumine – Karamui route has already reached the first village in Karamui LLG with the K30 million funding from the National Government and only 11 kilometres remaining before reaching the Tua (Whagi) River and connecting the rest of Karamui to the other side.
