SEVENTH Street Roosters remain confident of making the top-eight finals after they beat Rainbow Rangers 4-0 to maintain fourth placing spot in the Gerehu Off-season Rugby League in Port Moresby on Friday.
Both teams were competitive but it was Dickson Kaupa who scored the winning try four minutes into the game.
Rangers regrouped to send winger Mai Ka for runaway try but it was disallowed by the referee.
The second half had both teams using forwards to gain yardage up the middle.
Rooster forwards Solomon Kanekane, Nalaki Kiyo, Jason Ipatas and Mathew Siroi made strong carries to pave the way for their backline to complete their sets but they were contained by Rangers’ Manu Titio, Enock Morris, Josh Raphael and Newman Andy.
Roosters coach John Jerry praised his players for their teamwork.
“My backs were effective. We executed our game plan in shifting the ball around to confuse the defence,” Jerry said.
“We also have young forwards between the ages of 19 and 22, so they have a lot of energy to tire the defence and create gaps for our backline to complete the job.”
