THE Boroko Rotary Club donated items to the Bomana prison in National Capital District yesterday to cater for needs of the prisoners.
Club president Sanjay Shah said a total of 300 mosquito nets and two beds, one movable stretcher, three bags of linen and eight cartons of bras and medical items for the prison clinic were presented yesterday.
Shah said they had donated 1,000 mosquito nets to the prison last year.
He also said all donations came from a group in Australia called UPLIFTING.
“The reason why the Boroko Rotary Club has donated a lot of hospital beds and mosquito nets for Bomana jail is to cater for needs of the prisoners,” he said.
“Our district governor from Australia, who visited the prison last year, saw the need to help the prison clinic because there was only one bed for 600 plus inmates back then.”
He thanked Correctional Services Insp Joe Yamason for making time available to receive the donation.
Yamason, on behalf of the commanding officer, staff, and prisoner, thanked the club.
