A COMPANY assisted Port Moresby Rugby Football League’s Paga Panthers and Kokopo Rugby League’s Rabaul Panthers with six sets of jerseys in the nation’s capital last week.
Sanctuary Hotel owner James Pang presented the jerseys to Paga coach Richard Wagambie and Rabaul Panthers representative Michael Marum.
He said the hotel would sponsor Paga while Rapopo Resort, which is also owned by the Pang family, would back Rabaul Panthers.
“We are proud to support the teams at the grassroots level,” Pang said.
“It is in the local leagues that players are produced before reaching the Digicel Cup, SP Hunters and Kumuls.
“Rapopo Resort and our plantation is located close to where Rabaul Panthers are and it only makes sense for us to back them.
“Michael Marum also from that part of Rabaul and we are happy to support.”
Marum thanked Pang for the support.
He said local teams needed such assistance from business houses.
Former Kumul Wagambie also shared the same sentiments as Marum.
“My family has been supporting Paga Panthers from our own pocket money,” Wagambie said.
“Sometimes we don’t have sponsors because it’s very difficult to secure support from business houses, that’s why we have to dig deep into our pockets to make sure our youths play at the grassroots level.
“But for Pang to come in and support both clubs in this difficult times is much appreciated.”
Meanwhile, Pang suggested that both clubs raise funds to play a friendly match.
He said the hotel and resort would provide free accommodation and meals, but the clubs would need to meet their own travel costs.
