CLASSROOMS and other properties were destroyed after boarding and day students of Kabwum Secondary School, in Morobe, confronted each other early this month, an official says.
The secondary school and nearby Kabwum Primary had their classrooms stoned and some students from the primary school received serious knife wounds and were airlifted to Lae.
Morobe police commander Supt Jacob Singura said the fight started after a combined meal to celebrate the completion of the grade 10 written expressions examination.
“Some boarding students were not happy with the meal and started arguing with the teachers,”he said.
“When the day students heard that, they accused the boarding students of creating problems which disturbed their lessons and a fight broke out.”
Singuru said the fight started on June 6 and the school remains closed.
A unit from the provincial police headquarters in Lae is in Kabwum to help in settling the issue, a peace negotiation is scheduled for today.
