Schram charged with false pretence regarding job

FORMER vice-chancellor of the University of Technology Dr Albert Schram, pictured, was charged with obtaining employment through false pretence by Port Moresby police yesterday.
NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’Dranou confirmed the arrest and charge and told The National that Schram allegedly produced a fake document to his employer, the university council, by producing a fraudulently manufactured PhD certificate for his employment in 2012.
He said Schram was apprehended by police and questioned why “he could not produce the original credentials” or certificate relating to his employment.
N’Dranou said the incident happened “when the university advertised the position in March 2011”.
“The defendant was one of the applicants for the position and was later shortlisted for the position by the university council.
“He also promised to go back to his home and bring back the original documents which he never did since 2011 and 2012,” N’Dranou said.
He said the complaint was laid by the university council a few months ago and investigation was carried out.
N’Dranou confirmed Schram was released on police bail of K2000 yesterday afternoon.
Schram, from the Netherlands, was vice-chancellor in Lae from Feb 2012 until his deportation in Feb 2013 by the former Higher Education Minister David Arore.
He returned to the country and was reinstated in his job.
Schram is expected to appear in court this week.
His passport was confiscated by police last week after he attempted to fly out of the country.
