THERE is a boundary when it comes to the governance and administration of rugby league in the country says PNG Rugby Football League chairman Sandis Tsaka.
Tsaka made these comments as it is a burning issue in the country where there is a lot of influence from those which have defined roles as leaders in rugby league but yet influence coaches to select or pick players of their choice.
Tsaka urged all involved in the sport to appreciate the difference and follow their defined roles for rugby league would flourish.
“I am just a chairman, we appoint the coach and selectors and it’s their responsibility to pick players. I don’t tell them what do to,” Tsaka said when responding to queries this week.
“If I start influencing who is picked, the boundary between governance and administration becomes blurred. We appoint this people because they have the qualifications and skills,” Tsaka said.
“I have my personal views but there is a boundary if we are to operate professionally. I do my role as PNGRFL chairman, the CEO does his role, and the coach and selectors do their jobs.
“If I keep on telling the coach who to select then I should be responsible for the team’s performance.
“For PNGRFL it’s about getting the management and administration structures right and we appoint and bring in credible people with the skills to develop the game.
“It’s not just the Orchids, it’s the Kumuls and the Hunters that myself and the CEO have no control over that.
“That’s not our responsibility.”
