PAPUA New Guinea has lost a senior and experienced academic in the late Prof Samuel Songorohuie Haihuie, according to
Yangoru-Saussia MP Richard Maru.
Maru was speaking at the funeral service for Haihuie at the Kusambuk Assembly of God church in the district last Thursday.
Maru told more than 500 people at the service that Haihuie contributed a lot to the human resources development of the country as a teacher and later as lecturer and executive director of the UPNG open college.
“As a teacher, he was a role model to many of his past students guiding them to life after school,” Maru said.
The MP described him a man with a big heart who had an open door policy, saying his heart went to those who could not make it through the normal system of education.
Haihuie extended the programme of UPNG open college to the provinces, establishing 23 open colleges under the UPNG programme throughout the country.
His body was laid to rest at his home village in Yekimbolye 2 last Friday.
