THE Coca-Cola PNG 7s circuit received a timely boost with an additional K35,000 sponsorship from Pacific MMI Insurance (PMMI).
Sevens circuit co-ordinator Freddie Matthies said the support gave their organising committee much-needed backing.
“Rugby is more than grateful to PMMI for supporting this exciting new concept,” Matthies said.
“It has been established to bring a high level of competition to the smaller centres and prepare elite players for international duty.”
Established teams like two-time national champions Kimbe Rebels, current title holders Tomaringa Royals, New Ireland Drongos and Madang Mad Gauns are just part of the class of visitors heading to the opening tournament – the Black Orchid 7s.
Hosts Buka, are set to spring a few surprises with a power packed line-up that is likely to include international players.
The circuit that  encompasses six centres starting with Buka during the Queen’s birthday weekend (June 11-13).
The Black Orchid 7s is expected offer a large prize pool that will break all records for the cup winners.
There will also be a number of high profile international players playing for provincial sides in the tournament.
The circuit will then go on to Madang, Kokopo, Kimbe and Wewak.
He added that there were plans in place to expand the circuit to major centres Port Moresby and Lae as well as Goroka.
“The circuit originated from the successful New Guinea Islands 7s circuit last year to which we are now expanding around the country.”
