A LIQUOR shop in Madang that was selling beer during a public holiday was ordered to close after police arrested drunk and disorderly people who had allegedly bought alcohol from the outlet.
Police officers, deployed by the National Airports Corporation to provide security at the airport construction site in Madang, arrested three people who had bought alcohol on public holiday, Madang police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said.
He said some shops and trade stores were selling liquor on public holidays which had added to the province’s many social problems.
“The authorities responsible should look into this and step up and do their work,” he said.
“They should not expect only the police to do everything.
“I want the police officers who approached the shop to order it to stop operating.
“I want to also make it clear to the other shops who are still operating during odd hours to stop doing that because your licence can be removed and you can be banned from doing that business as you are not abiding to the laws or rules for operating a liquor shop.”
