A GRADE six student, Alicia John, continued to impress in the Goroka women’s softball competition, after contributing to her team, United Sisters’ resounding 15-5 victory over Faniufa Highway Tigers on Sunday.
John, who was later named player of the match, contributed four runs and played a vital role at the catcher’s mound for her side.
Alicia’s other siblings Sophie (2), Lisa Marie (3), Heather (1) and Royalyn (1) contributed 11 runs to their 15-5 rout of the Tigers.
Sophie and Lisa Marie further stamped their authority by slugging two homers each when their own siblings were on bases.
Sisters’ other runs came from pitcher Mary Womola (1), Natasha Maima (1) and Nayel Kalai.
Tigers had a wealth of experience with Rocky Rakini, Claudia Vaitak, Bonny Kelep, Kapa Malpo, Theresia Varip and Josepha Vao, while Juliet Kapinias, Aggie and Tracy Varip, formed a formidable side against their opponents.
However, it was the superior batting and disciplined fielding by the Sisters that denied Tigers a victory.
In the other women’s game, Lopi Sisters and Karanas settled for a 9-9 draw.
In the men’s encounter, Malangan beat Laikos 5-3 while Brown Eagles belted Tigers 11-8.
