Six clans from Gulf were presented their incorporated land group (ILG) certificates last Thursday.
The clans are from the petroleum retention licence that encompasses the Elk and Antelope gas fields in Gulf.
Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta thanked the clan leaders for taking the initiative to carry out social mapping process in light of the Papua LNG project.
He said their proactive initiative had helped government with the process of landowner identification.
Haiveta said the PNG LNG project was still facing issues with landowner identification.
He said his provincial government would make sure landowner identification in Gulf would be completed before beginning the development of Elk and Antelope gas fields into Papua LNG project.
“I don’t want any mistakes in the second LNG project,” Haiveta said.
“I want landownership identification completed before determination of the project.”
Registrar for ILGs Iruna Rogakila congratulated clan chairmen for their achievement.
The six clans are Pipijube, Ja’aho’a, Pehio, Wa’abo’a, Sopusa and Nemina.
