THE team managers for the men’s and women’s national soccer teams are confident of bringing back medals from next month’s Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.
Men’s and women’s team managers Gordon Manub and Roosje Suwae made the call in Port Moresby on Monday.
Suwae said her team were determined to retain their title as the queens of Pacific football.
“We have previously won four gold,” she said.
“This will be our fifth appearance at the Pacific Games and we intend to come back with our fifth gold.
“I have a team who are comprised of experienced and young players.
“I’m happy that I have put a strong team together with our two coaches, Federica Sakette and Margaret Aka.
“I’d also thank the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee and PNG Football Association for backing us in our preparations for the Pacific Games.
“We are ready to go. We’re continuing with training and we are looking forward to coming back with gold.”
Meanwhile, despite losing star midfielder David Muta, Manub is confident that there is a possibility for his men to win their maiden gold medal.
“We have only one goal and that is to bring back gold for the country,” he said.
“We believe that we have the team who can create history by bringing home their first gold medal.
“We also see that we have a favourable pool which we think that if we are prepared well enough, we should come back with a positive result.”
