A JUDGE has told the six soldiers charged with the murder of a student in Port Moresby in 2015 to appear in the National Court on June 11 so that the case can be dealt with promptly.
The six are Jude Nidung, Kenneth Yangun, David Travolta, Gregory Tuaki, Tobias Samson and Alwin Matiabe. They allegedly killed 17-year-old student Jeremaiah Yinu on July 25, 2015.
They failed to appear in court last Friday but Justice Panuel Mogish, pictured, yesterday accepted the reason they gave for not turning up.
He told them not to go looking for their lawyer on the day they were supposed to be in court.
Yesterday, Tuaki failed to appear again.
Justice Mogish told the other five to advise Tuaki to be in court on June 11 with an explanation for his absence. The soldiers will advise the court on their next appearance about changing lawyer.
The soldiers were allegedly involved in a fight with students from the Kilakila Secondary School during a cultural show at the Coronation Primary School on July 25, 2015. Yinu was allegedly beaten up in the fight resulting in his hospitalisation.
He died in hospital on Oct 7, 2015 after three months in a coma.
Yinu is from Bogia district in Madang.
He was a Grade 11 student at the Salvation Army Koki Secondary School at the time of his death.
