Soldiers’ wives group supports disability centre in Wewak

AN INCLUSIVE learning centre for children with disabilities in Wewak, East Sepik, received some useful items donated by a group of women on Monday.
Callan Services, received food items, toiletries and other basic necessities from the PNG Defence Force Army Wives Association from the 2nd Royal Pacific Island Regimental Barracks in Wewak, East Sepik.
The group led by Collin Serum, wife of commanding officer Lt-Col Steven Serum, visited children with disabilities at the centre and pledged their commitment to continue support the institution in any way possible.
Principal of Callan Services- Wewak Veronica Kave while thanking the association, said children with disabilities had equal rights in a family and community.
“They have their rights as everyone, in all aspects of life, including education, and this should not be overlooked,” she said.
Kave said it was the first time in many years for the institution to receive such donation from a local organised group in Wewak.
She said despite many challenges, especially amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the institution was doing its best with every available resource to maintain its services for the less fortunate.
