Despite the election-related problems, the political issues and this year’s 7.5 magnitude earthquake, Southern Highlands is confident of delivering the Papua New Guinea Games in 2020.
“We’ve always been ready in terms of planning and in terms of feasibility studies and all the preparation work, but the problem with us was the funding and financial component from the provincial government,” host organising committee chairman Sape Molumi said. Construction work was set to begin early this year, but problems faced by the province had hindered the committee.
But Molumi said despite the problems, he was optimistic that they would deliver the games if funding was made available to them.
At the conclusion of the second board meeting in Port Moresby, a number of matters were discussed.
Some of the matters included the number of sporting codes at the Games, where they would be played and the number of venues that would be built in the province.
It was agreed at the meeting that venues would be built in Kagua-Erave, Ialibu-Pangia, Walum Junction, Nipa and Mendi.
