MERMAIDS and Sparrows will face off tomorrow in a top-of-the-ladder tussle in Port Moresby netball.
Competition leaders Mermaids have been a well-oiled machine; their consistency so far this season has made them the team to watch in the Port Moresby Netball Association’s premier division.
Shooters Rayleen Andrew and Japhet Tulapi have been taking the lead up front for Mermaids.
The dynamic duo have been a handful for defenders in the competition, with their excellent shooting, footwork, passing and positioning.
In the centre third, former PNG representative and Mermaids centre Nancy Kapi directs the team with her quick and accurate passing, shifting play from defence to attack.
The tireless efforts of Eloise Vele and Kila Leka have contributed to the Mermaids mid-court trio’s ability to dominate the majority of their games.
Vele and Leka are considered the mainstay of the Mermaids.
Second-placed Sparrows, who are coming off a one-point loss to the Rebels last weekend, will be determined to surpass the Mermaids in all aspects of the game.
The Sparrows will give their all to ensure the match does not slip through their fingers.
Current PNG centre Neritha Adula along with the rest of the team will be eager to make-up for last week’s loss Her teammate and fellow national rep Kilala Owen must lead the team in doubling their efforts in attack and defence if they are to subdue the sizzling Mermaids.
