MAJOR sponsor of Kainantu Rugby Football League competition in Eastern Highlands, Gateway Bakery Ltd, has urged all affiliated clubs to start preparing for the 2013 season.
Managing director John Noto also appealed to sporting clubs in the Eastern Highlands town who wished to use the rugby league oval to pay K200 per day to the KRFL bank account.
He said Gateway Bakery had been maintaining the playing field as part of their duties as the major sponsor.
Noto understood that Kainantu MP Johnson Tuke planned to stage an off-season Christmas competition at the oval and while he fully supported the involvement of the youths in the event, he wanted organisers to ensure the hire fees were paid.
“PNG Rugby Football League and Goroka Rugby League officials know that Gateway Bakery is the caretaker of the rugby league oval in Kainantu, as such they must show some maturity and respect to adhere to conditions set by major sponsor on behalf of the Kainantu RFL executives,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Johnson Tuke Cup is set to kick off today.
Eight teams have confirmed their participation in the one week-long tournament.
