Stallions crush Kutubu

Tusbab Stallions dished out the heaviest defeat so far in the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League this season after their 5-0 win over newcomers Kutubu at Madang’s Laiwaden Oval on Saturday.
Stallion striker Papalau Awele scored twice and provided an assist in a man-of-the-match performance.
The one-sided-affair started rather well for Kutubu when striker Karesa Moris came close to scoring for the visitors.
But playmaker Ricky Wadunah opened the Stallions’ account with a 14m effort that caught Kutubu goalkeeper Jonathan Pole flatfooted.
After the opener, Tusbab dominated possession which led to their second goal five minutes later, thanks to Awele.
Another three second-half goals by Stahl Gubag (50th minute), Papalau (71st) and Moris Devi (90th) sealed win for the Rachael Wadunah-coached side.
Kutubu coach Mathew Witu said: “Mentally, we were not fully prepared for a game.
“But It is early day’s still and we know what went wrong.”
Kutubu’s standout players were Henry Gulf, Dickson Suraro and Keresa Moris.
Solomon Mapai, Jasper Panu, Gubag, captain Nigel Malagian and the Wadunah brothers (Ricky and Jason) played well for the home side.
Stallions team managers Afinini and Juanita Tawi were thrilled with their first win of the season.
“We want to see the team perform well in our home games and get the players to be more confident in themselves before they go out to play away games,” Afinini Tawi said.
He said Madang soccer followers were returning to Laiwaden Oval to support NSL and the Stallions after some of law-and-order issues “but the next home game promises to bring in a full house”.
