Post PNG will a launch a competition for children to design postal stamps as a way to promote the historical significance of stamps, Post PNG philatelic manager Banian Masiboda says.
He told The National that postal stamps were often created to mark and promote significant events in Papua New Guinea to the world.
Masiboda said Post PNG would be launching the competition for school children next month. He said the competition would require children to draw their own postal stamps on a template that would be circulated.
Masiboda said four of the most creative and relative PNG designs would win a cash prize of K2000 each.
“We’ve produced a special stamp purposely for this competition for children around the country,” he said.
“They can draw anything related to Papua New Guinea. We will select four regional winners from the competition.
“The money can go towards their school fees.”
Masiboda said the stamps played a significant role in capturing the history of PNG.
“Stamps are very important because every stamp tells a story. You will notice for every release of a stamp, we have information behind them,” he said.
