State set for general election

CHIEF Secretary Isaac Lupari says the Government is ready for the 2017 general election.
He said this yesterday after launching the new Electoral Commission website at an inter-department election committee meeting attended by Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato, Treasury Secretary Dairi Vele, Finance Secretary Dr Ken Ngangan and police.
He said another meeting would be held next Monday to finalise the election programme including costs.
“We are ready,” Lupari told reporters.
“We have a whole-of-government approach to this exercise. It’s not only the Electoral Commission that’s going to do it. This team is going to give it all the support it needs, including security forces.
“We know there are people who are saying that there’s no funding, but with the team here, we will make sure that all the support that it needs is given to it.”
Lupari said a plan was in place and would be executed.
