ESA’ALA MP Davis Steven is no longer deputy prime minister but continues as the Justice Minister and Attorney-General in a Cabinet reshuffle yesterday.
Prime Minister James Marape thanked him for being his deputy in the past 16 months, saying Steven would also continue “to play a critical role as chairman of the Social, Law and Order ministerial committee”.
Marape named Bulolo MP and National Planning Minister Sam Basil as his new deputy.
“These changes draw on the substantial capabilities within our government,” Marape said.
Steven could not be reached for a comment yesterday but said in May when a cabinet reshuffle was being mooted that Marape as PM had the “prerogative” to make or revoke appointments as he wished.
