Stop justifying harassment at uni

Letters

JUSTIN Max sounds like a perpetrator and one who condones harassment at the University of PNG (UPNG).
Justin should know that UPNG has educated thousands of people who have their own view.
I was a student back then in the early 1990s.
Even though we shared dormitories with female students, I can remember there were sporadic cases of harassment, which was probably existing before I enrolled there.
I remember cases of harassment that were never addressed by the UPNG administration back then.
Some of our female colleagues that time were victims of rape and other forms of harassment and intimidation.
Those cases were reported.
Some of the perpetrators are now senior citizens.
The saddest thing then was that the UPNG administration has not been active in dealing with incidents of harassment that occurred on campus.
The question raised by Justin in yesterday’s The National were absurd.
He sounded as if he’s blaming the female students.
If he is a student, then he is definitely in the wrong place.
It is sad that he got selected.
He sounded like he was living in the 1940s.
Justin, please educate yourself to accept that harassing someone without probable cause is wrong and you cannot justify that.
If you have a problem with your female colleagues, please raise it with the authorities.
Why do you have to waste your parents and sponsors’ resources worrying about how female students dress on campus?
University students in the country should accept change.
Please, withdraw from studies and go back to your village if you cannot live in a multicultural and modernised community.
