Stop land-grabbing around airport

Letters

IT baffles me that many shortsighted individuals serving in various offices of authority are turning a blind eye on land-grabbing around Jackson International Airport in Port Moresby.
By 2050, there will be an increase in domestic and international traffic as the country’s population might reach 19 million.
Will there be room to have two additional terminals and runways to cater for the demand in air transport in and out of the National Capital District?
If not, the National Airport Corporation has the absolute right to restore the State’s interest on land it occupies under Certificate Authorizing Occupancy (CAO).
Any dubious conversion of State land under CAO to private or State commercial leases are all reversible by the Lands Title Commission and the Lands secretary.
Past Lands secretaries such as Romilly Kila Pat helped some departments to reclaim all titled land by outright cancellation of titles back to CAO.
There are precedents already in place to safeguard State land under CAO.
The National Airport Corporation is urged to pursue the land reclamation action once the Government can find alternatives to resettle all settlers, including new businesses and residents.
