Stop sexual violence against females

Letters

MANY teenage girls are becoming victims of persistence sexual abuse in Papua New Guinea today.
Sexual harassments such as rape is rife and widespread as published by news media in all forms.
Children, especially girls, are reported being raped, molested or gang raped.
Girls are subjected to men who are sick in their brains to commit such sexual abuses at homes, gardens or other locations.
Girls and women are then threatened not to report those cases to their relatives.
These young victims become further aggravated when they are not provided with medical reports as evidence in courts, hence prosecution and court processes are delayed.
These conditions violate basic children’s rights such as access to basic health care.
If the PNG Government has signed treaties with the United Nation Convention on the Rights of the children, please do not turn a blind eye.
The Government is obliged to protect children, particularly the girls under both International and Domestic Laws.
Despite the seriousness of the problem, it is obvious that there are little or no willingness to investigate and prosecute the culprits.
To address the issues of abused young girls in PNG, the Government agencies responsible and societies should work hand in glove to have the perpetrators held accountable and redress provided for the victims.
It is frustrating to see the agencies responsible lacking in swift intervention and effectiveness to curb sexual violence against girls.
But it is not too late to save and protect our girls if we are wary that we all born by a mother and we have sisters.

  • Png men/boys we needs to really educate ourselves with good thinking and information rather than going online looking for phonographic pictures which build up the wicked desire to molest and rape our own sister, cousin or daughter. I really am supporting JK with what he said…and am calling on the government and other responsible agencies to take it seriously and lay tougher penalties against those offenders. Remember that it can happen to you or me if we don’t speak up and act rightfully.

  • one of the things I have notice in the recent times and I think it is an issues need addressing is that young girls have lost love for young smart boys, the girls rather opt for older men with money leaving their age group boys desolated. The understanding and the trend now is that young men will not meet the physical needs of young girls so love runs dry. Young boys as human beings have sexual feeling and if cannot be satisfied through proper love relationships with girls they resort to forced sex and that is deemed as rape just to satisfy their needs. I think that rape situation will still continue and escalate because of love and sex imbalance. Government needs to come up with policies and laws protecting young ladies from older men with money but most importantly protect love, dignity, state of being young and essence of being human.
