Student hit by vehicle dies

A STUDENT scheduled to do grade 12 this year was hit by a vehicle in Popondetta town on Thursday and died in hospital the next day.
He suffered internal injuries, police said.
Police commander Superintendent Michael Welly said the student was walking on the side of the road when a PNG Power Ltd vehicle ran into him.
“Deceased was rushed to hospital but because he had internal bleeding, he died the next day,” Welly said.
Welly said the accident occurred at night at Killerton Road.
He said relatives of the deceased tried to take matters into their own hands and decided to cause more trouble, but police quickly attended to the situation and stopped it.
The suspect has been arrested and detained.
